Bluey's Quest: for the Gold Pen

How did I contribute?

Bluey’s Quest is a multiplatform adventure game spanning various open world levels; mainly using accessible action-based mechanics to pose simple puzzles and challenges for young players to overcome.

My roles centred around mechanic ideation, prototyping and gameplay programming & design for the core of the game.

Additionally, I also lead the gameplay design for the final level’s boss fight, as well as contributed heavily to the sequence’s implementation.

I was also consulted on, and contributed to, the improving of “game feel” across the project.

Contributions

The full way through this project, I was directly responsible for the prototyping & implementation of my designs. This involved me writing production level C# code, as well as being hands on 24/7 within the unity editor.

I also worked within a large team and adapted to varied coding styles and quality.

My two biggest contributions to the project were one of the core mechanics (Goose Dash), and the boss fight sequence: both of which I designed and implemented from start to finish.

The Goose Dash (an ability found in levels 7 and 8) I designed, prototyped and refined in preproduction. Once approved, I designed secondary mechanics and functionality before fully implementing it for the final version within the game.

For the Boss Fight, my responsibility fell on designing and implementing an action sequence to make a climactic battle to end the game. This involved prototyping and ideating action sequences for players, implementing new camera functionality for more cinematic shots; and lastly, assembling the final level sequence from block-out to final art pass.

Good show," - PlayDayOne "...imaginative setting, with solid game mechanics underpinning it," - GameSpot "...the art is fantastic, the writing is sharp, and the puzzles are fun." - CrossPlay "...a classic adventure game in which Bluey and Bingo chase their impish dad... The game’s design rewards curiosity, exploration..." - The Gaurdian
